Shillington Wrapped is a short-form motion piece inspired by Spotify Wrapped that was created as part of my application for Shillington’s Diversity in Design Scholarship. Challenged to create a 2-minute video that highlighted my passion for design and showed how Shillington would impact me, this submission helped me earn a spot as one of Shillington’s 2025 Diversity in Design scholarship recipients.

The Challenge

In addition to 6 written essay questions, the application required candidates to submit a creative piece (either a PDF or 2-minute video) that expressed what design, Shillington, and the scholarship meant to them. Given my love of motion, I knew I wanted to create a video, so this posed the challenge: how can I create a narrative that demonstrates my love of design and how the scholarship would impact me in 2 minutes or less?

The Idea

Since I wanted to focus on the impact of the scholarship, I initially explored concepts that predicted the future, such as tarot cards, a crystal ball, a Magic 8-ball, or the childhood game "MASH". However, these devices lacked clear narrative structure.

The breakthrough came by flipping the script; instead of predicting the future, what if the story looked back? One of my favorite ways to reflect on a past year is through Spotify Wrapped, so I chose this structure as the basis for my Shillington year in review.
